When Children Need Legal Representation, We’re Here To Help
As a certified Minor’s Counsel, Michael represents children in high-conflict child custody disputes. In his role as Minor’s Counsel, Michael is appointed by the Court to provide a voice for the child and advocate for their best interests without being constrained by either parents’ desires or emotions often associated with contested custody disputes. As a Minor’s Counsel, Michael investigates the facts and circumstances of the dispute, meets with the child, interviews the parents, and speaks to other third-parties (teachers, therapists, health care providers, other family members) who may have relevant information to the pending dispute.
Michael is often asked by the Court to make recommendations to the Court on issues such as custody, visitation, and other matters that may affect the child’s well-being. Michael’s focus is on protecting the child’s rights, listening to the child, and ensuring that any decisions made by the Court and/or the child’s parents serve the child’s best interests.
In those cases where the child is very young, Michael does not serve as a typical attorney for the child as he does not necessarily represent the child’s direct wishes, but rather Michael advocates for the child’s overall welfare and best interest. In this capacity, Michael provides a voice for the child when the child may be too young or unable to advocate for themselves.
